Subaru - Carwash

How do you illustrate that the new Subaru XV is comprised of the best parts of all Subaru makes and models of years past? Easy: Drive them into a moving car wash in a dried up lake bed and see what happens!

The main effect of placing the car wash in the environment was achieved by compositing a miniature scale model into plates shot near Goulburn, NSW. Once the offline edit of live action plates was locked off, we went into a studio to shoot the miniature. It was essential that camera angles, lenses, lighting and relative distances were matched as closely as possible between the plate and studio shoots. Without the use of motion control, it was impossible to match these exactly, so the Fin compositing team had to weave their magic to make sure the final comps sync’d up perfectly.

There was work done on almost every shot in the ad. 22 shots required the car wash comp, 29 shots that needed the car drivers to be removed and the headlights to be turned on, and 22 Shots where we added CG rocks and new horizon lines. This mountain of work was completed on schedule due to the use of multiple compositing platforms including Nuke, Flare and Flame.
