A whole lot of crabs and not much time – That was the gauntlet thrown down to Fin’s VFX crew by agency DDB, driven by the imminent arrival of a new model of iPhone.

Having enjoyed a steady flow of character animation jobs in the preceding months, Fin’s CGI animal pipeline was in good shape to take on the challenge.

A talented group of animators from as far afield as Berlin contributed their skills to bring our hero hermit crab Claude to life, surrounded by literally hundreds of admiring females.

Despite the frantic pace of production, the whole Fin team really enjoyed the process of making a bunch of cute crustaceans dance to such an iconic Dean Martin soundtrack.

With his sharp dance floor moves and growing polarity with the female crab demographic, perhaps Claude has a future in the media…
