Hands down the most difficult shot of this ad was the Tokyo Bridge shot. Due to restrictions on shooting on the actual Tokyo Bridge, the shot had to be constructed in post.
Production supplied Fin with a plate of the car driving in a parking lot, hi res footage of the Tokyo bridge and hi res stills of the Tokyo cityscape.
As a result of the complex and extensive camera move, Fin had to build a highly detailed 10K matte painting of Tokyo and re-project on a 3D surface.
As the director and creatives wanted very specific lighting conditions the matte painting had to be meticulously manipulated until we reached the desired effect.
The car was then rotoscoped, tracked back onto a CG generated road surface and then composited back into the matte painting. The Flame renders for this shot were off the charts!
