Behind the scenes
We’ve been adding CG stadiums and crowds to shots for years now, so when director Mark Toia approached us with a script to destroy a stadium, we were over the moon.
Shooting the car in a muddy quarry was a great place to start. But then there was the small issue of adding what wasn’t there – which in many shots amounted to pretty much everything. A full CG stadium, collapsing rubble physics simulations, dust plumes, matte paintings, digital extras – if you look hard enough you’d probably spot a CG kitchen sink.
Thanks to a heroic compositing effort and a very trusting director, agency and client this epic digital jigsaw came together surprisingly smoothly. The poor render farm, however, is still smouldering.
