FIN Opens New Gold Coast Studio

November 7, 2025

Last week, FIN VFX officially opened the doors to its brand-new Gold Coast studio, marking a major milestone in the company’s 25th anniversary year - and a new chapter for visual effects in Queensland.

The launch event brought together FIN crew from around the country, alongside clients, Screen Queensland, Queensland Treasury, City of Gold Coast representatives, and industry partners to celebrate the occasion.

For Managing Director Chris Spry, the opening was a particularly meaningful moment.

“I’m from Queensland,” said Spry. “When I finished uni, I knew I wanted a career in computer graphics - but at the time, there just weren’t enough opportunities here. Like so many others, I had to move to Sydney. So to be back now, opening a world-class VFX studio right here on the Gold Coast… I honestly couldn’t be more thrilled.”

The new studio adds to FIN’s growing footprint, joining locations in Sydney, Melbourne, and Ballina. With over 250 artists and staff, FIN continues to deliver high-end visual effects for clients including 20th Century Studios, Marvel, Paramount, Netflix, and Apple TV+, and has become one of Australia’s most respected creative studios.

The Gold Coast has quickly become one of the most dynamic screen production hubs in the country, offering world-class facilities, strong industry partnerships, and a lifestyle that attracts both talent and imagination. “It’s the perfect intersection of lifestyle and creativity,” said Spry. “This studio is about building creative capacity in Queensland and ensuring artists can build sustainable careers without leaving the state.”

The new facility was designed by FIN Exceutive Creative Director, Will Gammon, who brought both a sharp creative vision and a hands-on approach to the build. The project came to life through the collective effort of FIN’s financial, technology, and operations teams - a testament to the collaboration and dedication that define the company’s culture.

FIN also acknowledged Screen Queensland, Queensland Treasury, and the City of Gold Coast for their instrumental support in realising the studio.

FIN is part of the Dream Machine Group, an international collective of creative studios including Important Looking Pirates (Stockholm, London, Hamburg), Zero VFX (Boston, Montréal), Mavericks VFX (Toronto), ARC Creative (Los Angeles, New York), and the newly formed Metropolis (Madrid).

“We’re proud to be part of the growing ecosystem that’s putting Australia on the global map for screen excellence,” said Spry. “As part of Dream Machine, we’re not just expanding studios - we’re expanding possibilities.”

From the Gold Coast to Hollywood and beyond, FIN’s newest studio represents more than expansion - it’s a statement of confidence in the future of Australian creativity on the world stage.
